About Me

I have worked with adults as a Speech and Language Therapist within the NHS for over 30 years and continue this work part time alongside my independent practice. I have developed a specialism and particular interest in working with adults who stammer.
Although I don’t have a stammer myself, my mother stammers and I have seen firsthand how a stammer can impact on a person’s confidence in communication and belief in being able to take up on opportunities. I want to be an ally for those who stammer and help to alter people’s perceptions of stammering to promote a culture where stammering is accepted and seen as simply a different way of talking.
I am experienced at providing individualised, non-judgemental and compassionate care using a range of evidence-based therapeutic techniques. Outside of my Speech Therapy work I am a listening volunteer for Samaritans and I also run a service taking individuals and groups on walks to benefit their mental health. Through involvement in these things and from my 30 years working as a Speech Therapist, I know how to support people’s emotional needs alongside focus on the stammer itself. I understand the importance of providing a safe and supportive space to allow people to share their experience and consider options for change.
If you feel it would be helpful, I also can link in with others in your home and working life to provide education about stammering and to encourage environments that support your communication more effectively.
I’d love to hear from you so please do make contact and we can discuss your needs further.
